New Writing Service: Writer Chat!

I’ve got some exciting news! I’ve already offered manuscript critiques, beta reading, sensitivity reading, and query critiques for the past couple years, but I’ve noticed a need within the writing community, and I’m so happy to be able to fill in this gap a little bit.

First, if you’re new here, Hello! I’m writer, but I’m also a fiction-focused reader, critiquer, and brainstorming buddy with a deep love for storytelling. Especially anything in the speculative fiction arena (fantasy, sci-fi, and everything in between). I’ve spent years studying craft, character arcs, and structure through self-education, critique groups, and good old-fashioned experience, and I’ve loved being able to provide support for other writers throughout the years. I’ve focused intensely on deepening my knowledge and experience of craft over these past several years, investing hundreds of hours into continuing education, and I’m ready to share all that with my fellow writing community. Although I have some information on my Writing Critique Services page, I wanted to expand on what Writer Chat is, and why I think it’s a valuable offering.

I’m not ever here to lecture or rewrite your work. I’m here to meet you where you are and help you figure out where to go next. I’m not even working in an editor capacity at all. But I’m excited to support you as you work through your process. Sometimes that means asking the right questions, and sometimes it means just being a sounding board for your wild ideas. That’s where Writer Chat comes in. This is actually something I’ve recently included as a free bonus with every Manuscript Critique, but now I’m offering it as a standalone service for anyone who might need that extra boost of support, without purchasing a large package or even having a completed manuscript.

This service is for writers who don’t need a formal critique right now, but do want someone in their corner. I’m someone to talk things through with, break through blocks, and help you build confidence along the way.

Currently with this option, I’m offering:

  • A 30-minute consultation (chat or phone) to:

    • Talk through story ideas

    • Explore plot or character problems

    • Brainstorm next steps or solutions

    • Ask questions about writing, querying, or the creative process

  • 1 month of email access for continued support, including:

    • Bouncing around new ideas or plot twists

    • Light accountability check-ins

    • Casual feedback on short passages or blurbs

    • Encouragement and honest, constructive responses

This is your chance to get some outside perspective without the pressure of a formal critique. Think of it as having a craft-savvy writing friend who’s just an email away.

Why Writers Love This

✔ It’s flexible, casual, and writer-centered
✔ A great option for when you’re stuck but not ready for a deep-dive edit
✔ Helps you reconnect with your story and your goals
✔ Encouragement and clarity from someone who understands the process

Whether you’re in the messy middle, the early idea phase, or gearing up for revisions, this service is a low pressure way to get support, stay motivated, and move forward with confidence.

Why It’s A Paid Service

Nothing has positively impacted my own writing more than feedback from other writers and editors, and while I wish I could give my time and energy freely to any writer in the community who asks, I have to be honest with myself (and others) about my limitations. As a recovering people pleaser, this has been a hard-learned lesson in my life. Additionally, I’m disabled, which means I’m already operating at a deficit most days. So, in order to give back to the writing community that I love so much, this allows me to do so in a more structured way, while still taking care of myself. I do have critique partners who I’m happy to swap critiques with, but I’ve also hired readers and editors, because I value that kind of professional feedback and the breakthroughs that happen when brainstorming with another person.

While I still respond (whenever possible) to questions from my fellow writers, and I’m moderately active on social media in the writing community, those responses tend to be quick, when I have some extra time. With paid clients, they get my full attention. It’s why I don’t take many on each quarter. I want to be available when you need me, and to be able to prioritize my clients first and foremost.

Getting Started

If you’re interested in booking Writer Chat, or if you have more questions about it, please feel free to reach out! I’m happy to answer any further questions you may have. One you’ve emailed me, either directly or through the form below (click the button to head there), I’ll be in touch. We’ll do a brief email consultation to get a feel for what you’re hoping to get out of Writer Chat, and if it seems like we’ll be a good fit, we’ll book that live phone/chat consult right away! I invoice through PayPal, but am flexible with payment methods, and we can discuss that during our initial email exchange.

So, if you’re looking for someone to chat all things writing with, or if you just need an accountability partner who also serves as a brainstorming buddy and sounding board, let’s get started!

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their stories so far. I look forward to working with lots of great writers in the future, and hope I can cheer you on the entire way.

Happy writing!
