SCRIVENER

This is my go-to for drafting my novels and other writing projects. There are loads of tutorials online, and I recommend checking those out before you get started. The interface is pretty intuitive, but it does have a TON of features, and the videos really help you to get started. I love how I can do all of my brainstorming and worldbuilding in one place (create sheets for each character, for instance), color code everything, and break down my stories into scenes easily. I can’t recommend this program highly enough. Plus, they’ve got a free trial, so it’s well worth your time to check it out.

NANOWRIMO

I set goals and track my writing progress on the NaNoWriMo website. NaNoWriMo started as an annual challenge to write a novel (50k words) in the month of November, but the website itself has some great tools for goal-setting and tracking. That’s really what I use it for, although many writers have found community on the forums as well. I love seeing the line graph go up every day when I enter my daily word count!

REEDSY

Reedsy has just about everything, and I’m considering moving some of my projects into their online editor once they have a fully functional collaborative feature. They’ve got freelance editors, designers, and marketers ready to help authors get their books ready for publishing. I also enjoy participating in their Reedsy Prompts weekly short stories contest. I’ve only submitted a handful of stories so far, but it’s fun to get paired with critique partners, hone my craft, keep my creative juices flowing, and just generally step outside my longform projects to do something different.

I am not sponsored in any way. I just use these resources and think they’ve improved my writing process.
